Instructions
- Make the crust: Mix flour and salt. Cut in cold butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add ice water a tablespoon at a time until dough comes together. Divide in half, wrap, and chill.
30 min (passive time) - Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
- Mix sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Roll out half the dough and line a 9-inch pie dish.
- Add apple filling and dot with butter. Roll out remaining dough for top crust.
- Seal edges and cut vents in top. Brush with egg wash if desired.
- Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake until golden.
45 min - Let cool before serving.
